Guest Writers: Environmental & The Twins: Organica Fish and Chips

By Guest Writer, August 28, 2010 8:42 pm

Today we had an opportunity to visit one of the newest places that are recently introduced to the restaurants scene in Kuwait. Actually the place is not new as it was a café but now turned into a restaurant! Organica Fish and Chips located in Mangaf is the first authentic Australian-style fish and chips or as the owner would say “the way it should be!”

اهلا بالاعزاء زوار موقع السلطانة ,

شركة فورد من الشركات العريقة في تصنيع السيارت واليوم كانت عندنا فرصة تجربة سيارة

Lincoln-MKX

Guest Writer “Q80 In Denver”: Al-Baik Review

By Guest Writer, June 21, 2010 10:10 am

Hello Everyone!  It’s been a while since I’ve made review and I’m so glad to have the opportunity to come back and post the newest and the most exciting restaurants review in or outside of Kuwait. Since this is my comeback review, I needed to post something special and totally different so I decided to review a restaurant that many people had seen but didn’t have the chance to try.
Have you ever heard of the “In-n-out” of Saudi Arabia? A few months ago, I went to Mecca with my family. Years and years had passed by and we all enjoyed “Farooj Faqeeh” from Al-6azej but all the fuss over it had gone years ago… so I thought of trying the famously called “Al-Baik” restaurant which specializes in fried chicken…  I haven’t got the chance to try it before so I got on a taxi and asked him to take me the nearest Al-Baik restaurant. When I arrived I couldn’t believe my own eyes when I saw this!

Guest Writer “Jacqui’s Sister”: Nail It Review

By iLSuL6ana, June 3, 2010 3:00 pm

The Place: quite small upon first impression; however, it served its purpose—as a nail spa. As soon as you walk in through the door, glancing directily to your right-hand side you can easily spot the reception desk…

Exclusive From Electrozan: iPad 3G Review by “Q8 Environmental”

By Guest Writer, May 12, 2010 3:19 am

First, I would like to thank Electrozan for the opportunity of doing this review of the iPad 3G! Let me tell you something, ever since apple announced the release of the iPad, I wasn’t interested nor excited at all. I just did not see what options the device has that would make me go and buy it!

Since I only had limited time to play with my iPad before returning it, I tried to do as much as I could to try and change my mind about it, sadly I did not, even though I changed my views, I actually LIKED IT, but for me, I don’t see myself buying this unless they add some features.. Now let’s go into more details…

When I first saw pictures of the iPad I thought it would be big, heavy! But I was wrong, it was perfectly sized and the weight is nothing! It is really light and thin, Ok it is not anywhere near a weight of a feather, but it is still weight light considering the size of it! Turning it on was easy, since I own an iPhone, it is just a big version of it. The display is nice and I think it is even brighter and BETTER than the iPhone’s display. The speed of booting is really nice, it starts almost instantly, and seriously I thought it was faster than my iPhone, even the functions! I liked how apple finally made it possible to add a background to the home screen. I couldn’t wait to test browsing, before going on that, I would like to thank VIVA for providing us a MicroSIM which works with the iPad instead of the regular SIM. VIVA is one of the first companies to provide this new technology. The speed was fantastic in my location (Sharq area). Youtube videos load very fast compared to my iPhone AND the video loads in the same webpage instead of opening youtube! Now in some other locations, the speed was horrible but it all depends on which tower you are connected to I guess! Again, I loved this feature about youtube, the browsing was a hell of nice experience with all touch screen functions, no mouse no need to zoom in like in the iphone (for most cases)! I just hated how apple never will be in peace with flash and add that feature so I can enjoy full browsing :(

Another thing, when apple announced how the iPad’s battery would remain charged for 9 hours with 3G, and 10 hours with WiFi, they really meant it! When I got the iPad it had only 78% of battery life, I used it for few hours over 24 hours period, and the battery dropped to 40% only! My iPhone’s battery usually dies after 6 – 8 hours of a full charge without even using it most of the time, just to give you how I am really impressed with the battery!

Since I have a US account with apple, I was able to go in the App store for the iPad and I tried some free apps and games. I admit there is still some missing stuff, but if you loved the games of the iPhone, you will fall in love even more with the iPad!

Unfortunately, there is still no Kuwaiti app store yet, I’m sure there will be one very soon.

Now, the fun part is jailbreak is available to the iPad! As you can see in the pictures, Cydia is installed! And almost every iPhone application is compatible with it! You might face some problems with the size as it will show the size of an iPhone size in the big iPad screen, but again, if you play with it and select some themes from winterboard, you can adjust that and fix it.

One more thing we noticed about Youtube that if you are connected to a 3G connection, it selects a low resolution version of the video you are playing, where if you are connected to a wireless network, it will select the HD version!

I noticed that there is still no Arabic keyboard and only few languages available. Also the sound or speakers are moody or something. In Youtube the sound is low you can barely hear it, where if you play a video from the iTunes store the sound is perfect and loud.

Another annoying this about it is the screen gets so many fingerprints as you can see! Well I think if there is a screen protector it will help a lot!

Now lets sum some of the Pros and Cons.

Pros:

-          Battery.

-          Flexibility of the screen is fast and accurate in a timely manner to all angles.

-          Keyboard is big and easy.

-          Big screen.

-          Light weight and size.

-          A Lock switch to stop rotating the screen if it annoys you!

Cons:

-          Fingerprints on the screen!

-          Sound low sometimes and the speakers are only in one side.

-          Youtube videos and the randomness of selecting the resolution in 3G and Wireless.

-          No USB port, No Flash browsing.

-          No Multi-tasking but I guess they are adding that in the next update.

-          No DVD-Rom drive. Not even as external one, yet.

Final thoughts: Why not buy an iPad? It’s not a laptop or a notebook replaceable… should we call it identity crisis for the iPad? .. It doesn’t know what it wants to be .. The only way I would buy an iPad is if I have extra money to shell out.

As you all know, iPad 3G is now available at Electrozan Al Salmiya, Starting from 299KD.

In the end I would like to thank Electrozan, especially Mr. Fawaz Al Wazzan, and VIVA for providing us the MicroSIM. Last but not least, my friends Q80 In Denver and S. Aljuhairy for their efforts into putting this review up for you!

Guest Writer “BiBi” : Me Time Nail Spa Review

By Guest Writer, March 15, 2010 11:16 am

It’s mid-March, the weather can’t decide which way is up, and it left me in a very in-need-of-pampering mood, and most certainly a nail-spa would be on the top of my list of places to just go and get that! Quite luckily I was asked by Ilsul6ana to review the place and in particular their Minx service. I heard a number of mixed opinions about the MeTime Nail spa from some of my old friends, but seeing is believing they say, so I just had-to find out!

Guest Writer “Q8 Environmental”: My Rage against .. CINESCAPE

By Guest Writer, March 8, 2010 10:07 pm

Ok I wanted to start to write about Wataniya Airways, but I will leave that for next week. Since I’m having a mood against Cinescape, well I always had but now it went over the limit. I’m not even gonna talk about how they release movies that are already out on dvd and even on TV!

The first thing was already mentioned by a reader here in the blog, you can read it here , they wanted to widen their The Collector’s poster so they googled the collector and I guess that they saved the first picture that came up and used it! Way to go!

Now, they can’t even spell Mel Gibson’s name! DAMN YOU he is my favorite actor and you HAVE to know how to spell his damn name if you are gonna edit and make some fancy pictures to use in your website!

Now another subject …

I wish we had more companies.. I really mean it.

Sticky(Move Down 4 Newer Posts)-Guest Writer Q8enviro: Let’s Burger !

By iLSuL6ana, February 26, 2010 12:31 pm

We got invited to try out the new Let’s Burger Restaurant in its soft opening located @ 360 Mall in 3rd floor next to where the bowling is.

When we got in we thought the restaurant is so tiny and the place is so quiet, but turns out that we were in the waiting area! To be honest we did not have any expectations at all, but in the end that changed!

Guest Writer “Q80 In Denver”: Tamerya

By Guest Writer, February 21, 2010 8:48 am

A couple of days ago, I received a package from the kind people of “Tamreya” including their variety of tamreya added to it 4 new items that completes their collection. For those who don’t know “Tamreya”, it is a place that sells tamreya (slowly cooked dates mixed with butter and cardamom). I remember my Grandma used to make her special tamreya in the time of Ramadan every single year, but “Tamreya” took the definition of Tamreya to a whole new level by infusing their bites with a lot of flavors (Chocolate, Coconut, Digestive crumbs, M&M’s, sesame … etc).
