As a part of the BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour that has taken place over all around the globe, Kuwait was the next destination after over 40 sessions. iLSul6ana Team was invited to attend an in-depth session and we got you some interesting facts and details about BlackBerry 10!
First, we got to know that BlackBerry is all about security, connection and productivity and that is what differentiates it BlackBerry among other competitors in the market.
As all BlackBerry users already know, BBM 7 was released few days ago and according to Mr. Ahmad Olaywan from RIM the update received positive feedbacks. The highlight of the update is the making free calls over Wi-Fi to their BBM contacts. So all you need to get is a BlackBerry updated with BBM 7 and a Wi-Fi connection to make free calls to your friends currently using BlackBerry as well.
Mr. Ahmad Olaywan talked about how BlackBerry App World got over 3 billion downloads and compared revenues generated from the top 3 smartphones providers. Turns out that Blackberry is still helping its developers to generate 40% more than what they get from Android Market, and 4% more than iOS per month. The main reason is that it costs less to develop apps in BB!
RIM also announced that their 10k developer commitment competition applies to Kuwait! Developers should be approved for the Built for BlackBerry program, submit by deadline, and generate a minimum of $1000 in earning over a 1 year period. When all those requirements are met, RIM will pay the developer the difference between $10,000 and his earnings! Developers in Kuwait are encouraged to develop apps related to Kuwait (Shopping, traffic …etc)
Now for the most interesting part of the session was talking about BlackBerry 10!
BlackBerry 10 is considered as a new era in mobile computing; it is the best of BlackBerry integrated into traditional mobile. There will be over 70,000 apps compatible on launch date for BB10 which is due sometime in February.
Mr. Mike Al-Mefleh showed us a demo of BB10 and I was impressed. RIM will release both full-touch and QWERTY keyboard devices for BB10. BlackBerry 10 as shown to us will have TRUE multi-tasking. You can open 8 apps at once and you don’t need to exit from the any app. All you need to do is swipe and access your other running apps! Using the BlackBerry hub which acts as a connection center, you can access your emails and BBM conversations on the go!
The App world is redesigned and looks way better. According to a test we did, Blackberry 10 browser scored the most points for html5 supporting beating both iOS and Android devices.
Another feature that caught my attention was the ability to switch from personal to work mode! Imagine you are using a Windows laptop and you have two different accounts each one has its own files/theme/background right? That is exactly what BB10 offers! You can store different photos/videos and setup different backgrounds in each mode!
Next interesting feature was the new designed keyboard. With large buttons you can hardly make any mistakes and thanks to the intelligent predictive feature, you will type easier than ever. It is called Intelligent because it can adapt to your typing and pick up words you usually use to predict what you are trying to type each time.
Finally the final and the one I really found creative and revolutionary was the camera face detection feature. Suppose you took a picture of your friends and one of them blinked. No need to take another picture! All you have to do is click on his face and adjust the picture as the camera allows you go moments before the picture was taken; i.e. the person had his eyes wide open!
We ended the session by watching a demo for the first NFC enabled app in the region that is being developed by Grand Cinema and will be available so you can use your phone as your ticket.
